There are many great birding locations in Florida. My friend and mentor Moose Peterson has shared many of them with me. Where I live in Florida, we have a lot of waterfront but most of it is protected or been developed. While there are many birds around, access can be quite complicated. Not too far from my home in Del Ray Florida is a hidden gem for bird photography. If you are ever in South Florida, I strongly encourage you to check out the Wakodahatchee Wetlands. It is a water reclamation area that has been artificially built to treat storm water and return in to the aquifer. They use natural vegetation in the process and many birds have flocked (haha) to it to get away from the urban development for the mating season. Access is easy and there is an (armed) guard so security is good for your belongings that you don’t want to take in with you.
The great feature about this place is a boardwalk that gets you up close and personal with the birds. If you don’t have long glass, you can easy get up to the birds with a 70-200. And the place is photographer friendly. There are no limitation on tripods (please be courteous to people with walkers) and many photography clubs meet up there so it is easy to make new friends. All shot with the Nikon 600 with 1.4x teleconverter.
