The supports of Sax Zim Bog put out feeders for the non migratory birds. This draws the superstars of the show, various owls including barred, boreal, snowy, and northern hawk owls. They will return to the same areas where the non-migratory birds hang around the feeders, jokingly called M&Ms for the raptors and owls. We had a variety of local birds including black-capped chickadees, hairy and downy woodpeckers, and red-breasted nuthatches. I find the woodpeckers to be the most fun to photograph as the bounce up the trees, waiting for the perfect moment to jump over to the suet and peanut butter. This downy woodpecker decided he wanted to model for a bit and be the center of attention and I happily obliged. This was taken with the Nikon D5 and Nikkor 180-400 with Nikon TC-14eIII teleconverter.
