If you are traveling somewhere to photograph fall color, timing is so very important. Unfortunately mother nature does not run on a fixed clock, the weather, altitude and the environment affect when leaves start to change. Even with all the planning and research, there is no guarantee that the leaves have started to show their reds, yellows, and oranges, or worse yet, they are already on the ground.
I prefer to have a few favorite locations picked for the year and then base don my schedule head to to the one where the forecasts and current predictions show the best probabilities. My picks for this year are the Smokie Mountains, Alaska, and the Colorado Springs area. With the current virus situation, I am finding the Northeast may be too restrictive this year.
Back when I tookthis picture, we had timed our arrival just about right in Cripple Creek Colorado. The aspens wear looking like vast yellow carpet across the mountains. Taken with the Nikon D4s with the Nikkor 24-70 2.8.
