Related to the Trumpeter Swan we see in North America, the Whooper Swan is a great bird to see in snow covered Japan in the winter. I found a bevy along the shore of Lake Kussharo in Hokkaido, Japan. The light was great and they allowed me to approach them through the woods and sit by the shore. Eventually the skunked me because they came up close to the shore, too close for the minimum focus distance of my Nikkor 800mm. Taken with the Nikon D5.
