The Not So Common

The Not So Common

Northern Mockingbird

While everyone wants to photograph that rare bird that people want to see (Kirkland), the real challenge is to photograph a common bird and make it unique. The goal is to find something unique to make the subject special, whatever it is. It could be a unique or clean background, interesting gesture, a great perch, etc.

In this case, I found a northern mockingbird with a decent background and providing some interesting gesture, until someone walking by thought he was too “common” and flushed him. This was taken at one of my favorite birding locations Wakodahatchee Wetlands is now finally back open. Taken with the Nikon D6 and Nikkor 800mm. I got mine at Bedford Camera.
