At the Northern Gannet colony at the Cape St Mary’s Ecological Reserve in Newfoundland Canada, thousands of birds head out to sea to find fish. They can travel up to 100km off the coast to find fish to bring back to their chicks huddled on the cliff face over the ocean. There are so many birds crowded on these rocks, sometimes the gannets need to make multiple approaches against the 30-40 mph winds. Even then their landings aren’t all that graceful. Taken with the Nikon D5 and Nikkor 180-400mm f/4 , hovering in front of us waiting for the perfect moment to make their attempt gives great opportunities to capture these majestic birds.
