While chasing around the vermilion flycatcher, I had what I thought was a fly buzzing around my head. Next thing I know I see a flit that lands on a branch. It wasn’t a large bird but recognized it as a hummingbird. The thing I noticed is that it wasn’t one that I saw at Madera Canyon. I took a few shots and took a look and realized that it was a violet-crowned hummingbird. My first that I have seen in Arizona. And it wasn’t one that I was expecting. Especially since I was following around the flycatcher. I was so happy to have a new bird to add to my library. Taken with the Nikon D500 with NIKKOR 300mm f/4E PF ED VR and Nikon AF-S Teleconverter TC-14E III handheld.
